Vincentian Center Website
One of the most intensive web design/development projects in which I have collaborated entailed the redesign of a previous version of the website of Vincentian Center for Church & Society.
My role consisted of leading the redesign efforts by
- analyzing the current website to determine its structure and informational needs
- analyzing current open source content-management systems (e.g. Joomla, Drupal) to select the one that could best serve the needs of the Center
- finding and evaluating website themes (templates)
- setting up the new website in the content-management system
- downloading, evaluating and deploying contributed modules to provide needed functionality
- programming php code to provide additional functionality not covered by modules or to customize functionality
- interconnecting the information so that events lead to related events and people are connected with the activities in which they participate
The following visuals present the comparison between old and new versions of the website:
- Homepage
-
In addition to the homepage content, the new website provides dynamic content such as announcements, events, highlights of recent events and people. It also integrates tools to download, print and share the content of the website.
- Events
-
Building on the list of events, the website now features a calendar view of events which also serves as event archive.
- Center Fellows
-
The listing of Center fellows now shows pictures. It can be presented in alphabetical order, by class or school and it links to each person's profile in the system as well as all scholarly work conducted in conjunction with the Center.
